今回はシーズン3のエピソード3の冒頭部分です。ペニーがシェルドン・レナードの部屋のキッチンで音楽を大音量で聞きながら朝食を作っているところにシェルドンがやってきました。
Penny: Morning, Sheldon. Come dance with me.
ペニー： おはよう、シェルドン。一緒に踊りましょ。
Sheldon: No.
シェルドン： だめだ。
Penny: Why not?
ペニー： どうして？
Sheldon: Penny, while I subscribe to the many worlds theory which posits the existence of an infinite number of Sheldons in an infinite number of universes, I assure you that in none of them am I dancing.
ペニー：僕は無限の宇宙に無限のシェルドンが存在するという多世界説を支持しているけど、どの宇宙においても僕は踊っていないと断言するよ。
– I assure you：保証する
Penny: Are you fun in any of them?
ペニー：どこかの世界にいるあなたは楽しいの？
Sheldon: The math would suggest that in a few I’m a clown made of candy. But I don’t dance.
シェルドン：数学的には、いくつかの宇宙では僕はキャンディでできたピエロなんだ。でも踊らないよ。
Penny: All right, want some French toast?
ペニー： わかった、フレンチトースト食べる？
Sheldon: It’s Oatmeal Day.
シェルドン： 今日はオートミールの日だよ。
Penny: Tell you what, next French Toast Day, I will make you oatmeal.
ペニー: それなら、今度のフレンチトーストの日には、オートミールを作ってあげる。
Sheldon: Dear Lord, are you still going to be here on French Toast Day?
シェルドン：フレンチトーストの日にもここにいるつもりなの？
Leonard: Morning.
レナード：おはよう。
Sheldon: Look, Leonard, Penny made French toast.
シェルドン： ほら、レナード、ペニーがフレンチトーストを作ってくれたよ。
Leonard: Sorry. I haven’t given her your schedule yet.
レナード：ごめん。まだ君の予定を伝えてないんだ。
Sheldon: It’s an iCal download, she can put it right in her phone. And I thought we agreed that you’d have your conjugal visits in her apartment.
シェルドン：iCalでダウンロードできるんだ。携帯で見ることができる。それに、夫婦の面会は彼女のアパートでするって約束したよね。
– Conjugal：夫婦間の、婚姻の
Leonard: We did, but there were extenuating circumstances.
レナード：したんだけど、情状酌量の余地があったんだ。
– Extenuating：酌量できる
Sheldon: I see. Did her abysmal housekeeping skills finally trump her perkiness?
シェルドン：なるほど。ペニーのひどい家事スキルが、ついにその陽気さに勝ってしまったのか。
– Abysmal ：ひどく悪い
– Trump ：勝る
– Perkiness：場にそぐわず陽気であること、表面に弾け出るような快活さ
Leonard: No, her bed kind of… broke.
レナード：いや、彼女のベッドがちょっと・・・壊れたんだ。
Sheldon: That doesn’t seem likely. Her bed’s of sturdy construction. Even the addition of a second normal size human being wouldn’t cause a structural failure, much less a homunculus such as yourself.
シェルドン：それはあり得ないと思う。彼女のベッドは頑丈に作られている。普通の大きさの人間がもう一人増えても壊れないだろう。ましてや君のようなホムンクルスならなおさらだ。
– Homunculus：ホムンクルス、小人
Much lessとは、二つの否定する文がある場合において、他方が一方に比してさらに否定の程度（できない程度）が大きい場合に「ましてや～でない」という意味をあらわす表現となります。
例えば、
I cannot read Spanish, much less write it.
私はスペイン語を読めない、ましてや書くことはできない。
Penny: A homunculus?
ペニー：ホムンクルス？
Leonard: Perfectly formed miniature human being.
レナード： 完璧に形成されたミニチュア人間だよ。
Penny: Oh, you’re my little homunculus.
ペニー：ああ、あなたは私の小さなホムンクルスね
Leonard: Don’t do that.
レナード： やめてよ。
Penny: Sorry. Okay, who wants syrup and who wants cinnamon sugar?
ペニー：ごめん。じゃあ、シロップとシナモンシュガーはどっちがいい？
Sheldon: I want oatmeal.
シェルドン：僕はオートミールがいい。
Penny: Yes, well, I want a boyfriend whose roommate isn’t a giant pain in the ass.
ペニー: そうね。私はルームメイトがめんどくさくない彼氏が欲しいな。
– Pain in the ass：うっとおしい人、めんどくさい
Sheldon: I’m sure that will happen soon enough. But in the meantime, I still want oatmeal.
シェルドン： すぐにそうなると思うよ。でも、それまではオートミールが食べたいんだ。
Merriam-websterでは、「Soon enough」の意味について「no later than needed」と説明されています。基本的にはSoonと同義と考えてよいですが、必要なタイミングに遅れることなく、といったニュアンスが入るようです。
Penny: You know what, I give up. He’s impossible.
ペニー： あのね、私はあきらめるわ。彼は無理だよ。
Sheldon: I can’t be impossible. I exist. I believe what you meant to say is, “I give up, he’s improbable.”
シェルドン： 僕が、不可能なわけないだろ。僕は存在する。君が言いたかったのは、”彼はありえなさそうだからあきらめる “ってことだろ。
– Improbable：起こりそうもない、本当らしくない
Leonard: Sheldon, you really need to find a better way of dealing with Penny.
レナード： シェルドン、ペニーとうまく付き合う方法を見つけた方がいいよ。
Sheldon: What am I supposed to do, eat French toast on a Monday? Now, that would be impossible.
シェルドン：月曜日にフレンチトーストでも食べろって言うのか？そんなの無理だよ。
Leonard: I’m just saying, you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
レナード：酢より蜂蜜の方が、ハエをたくさん捕まえられるって言ってるんだ。
Sheldon: You can catch even more flies with manure. What’s your point?
シェルドン：肥料ならもっとハエを捕まえられる。何が言いたいんだ？
– Manure：肥料、肥やし
Leonard: It’s a… (gives up)
レナード：それは・・・（諦める）
Sheldon: Boy, that does smell good. Too bad it’s Monday.
シェルドン： いい匂いだな。月曜なのが残念だ。
